If you are having trouble figuring it out you can always buy kits from drug stores that can help you calculate it better. The trick is to have intercourse on the day you ovulate. This will better your chances by giving the Y sperm a so called “head start” on getting to the egg without dying. For example, if you have sex 2 days before you ovulate the male sperm may die and never make the long trip to the egg.

If the male is on the top during intercourse the male sperm can make the trip much easier not having to swim up to the egg, but in a way swimming down. It only makes sense considering what we know about gravity. If the woman was in the top position the sperm would have to travel against gravity therefore slowing it down.
